Help build this much needed Health Care Centre, Sachibondu Zambia

Hello friends, family + supporters!

In May 2017 I will be moving to Zambia for 14 weeks to help build and Project Manage the final construction phase of a Health Care Centre in a remote, rural region of Zambia. I will be working with Orkidstudio, a charity and humanitarian architectural practice.

The Health Care Centre helps hundreds of patients each year and as the only centre within 300km, many people cross borders to find treatment.

The existing building was run-down with limited facilities and was struggling to cope with the increasing number of patients. The buildings were badly ventilated with low light levels and perpetuated the spread of disease.

The new Health Care Centre aims to significantly improve the facilities through good design, providing naturally ventilated spaces and purpose-built wards. This re-build will help the Centre gain the certification needed to obtain government approval as a District Health Care Centre, which will mean the provision of additional trained doctors, mid-wives, nurses and funding.

The project will have a huge positive impact on the health and well-being of both the patients and the locals who assist in the construction process. The build has already had such an incredible affect on the local community; promoting equality, educating and empowering men and women alike, and demonstrating how new forms of local building techniques can encourage social and economic growth.
