Helen Robbie is raising money for Mamie Martin Fund

My story

In 2013, Mariot (Mamie Martin's Granddaughter) and Helen (Mamie Martin's Great Granddaughter) are raising money by undertaking 10 challenges which will take them well and truly out of their comfort zones! Each £50 raised will activate the next challenge. Track their progress as they swim, scoot, skirt and toot their way through 2013!

£100 raised in offline donations

£50 - Challenge 1: Instrumental
When we reach our first target, Challenge 1 will commence. Both of us will learn a new musical instrument. View our monthly video diary entries to check our progress, and look forward to being serenaded with a Christmas duet to end the year.

£100 - Challenge 2: Operation Desk and Marathon Scoot
Our second challenges are personal. For Mariot, the ultimate challenge is to keep a tidy desk for 30 days. Random spot checks and photo evidence will provide some much needed motivation! For Helen, a person for whom physical activity does not come naturally, this challenge is to complete a marathon..... on a scooter. Check out video and photo evidence, or be a spectator!

£150 - Challenge 3: Knitty Gritty
This challenge will see us learn a new skill (Helen) or rediscover rusty skills (Mariot) as we endeavour to knit 200 squares to donate to Malawi. The squares can be used as raw materials to make a number of useful things in orphanages or hospitals in Malawi.

£200 - Challenge 4: Ooh La La!
This very personal challenge will involve a slight change in daily life. For 30 days straight you will see us dressed in a skirt, lipstick and perfume. Photo evidence will be provided, and if you see us within this time you can check for yourself!

£250 - Challenge 5: Swim the Lake
Lake Malawi is one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in Africa. It is an essential part of the economy in Malawi. For this challenge, our team will swim the equivalent of the width of the lake (75km) over eight weeks.

£300 - Challenge 6: Learn the Lingo
Another long-term challenge, for this we will be assigned a Phrase of the Week for six weeks, which we will work into conversation wherever possible. Phrases will be provided from our Malawian friends, from the local dialects.

£350 - Challenge 7: No Sugar
Those who have spent time with either of us know the scope of this challenge - 30 days consuming no sugar. No biscuits, no chocolate, no cake, so expect some self pitying blog posts as we battle the cravings for a good cause.

£400 - Challenge 8: Put to the Test
In this challenge, we will experience a day in the life of a secondary school girl in Bandawe. Not just any old day, however - exam day! Follow us as we swot up for a rigorous test of memory, knowledge and skill.

£450 - Challenge 9: Netball
Netball is the sport of choice at many of the girls schools MMF supports. For this challenge, we will form a scratch netball team, undertake training and compete in a netball tournament. Check the blog for progress reports on training, photo and video evidence, or of course - come and spectate!

£500 - Challenge 10: Mystery Challenge!
When we reach the final target of £500, one lucky person will be chosen at random from all the contributors to date. This person has the honour of choosing our tenth challenge. Get your thinking caps on!
