Solent Swim 2018

Event date: 4th August 2018

Annie Smith is raising money for West Wight Sports & Community Centre

My story

I am swimming the Solent to raise money for West Wight Sports and Community Centre and University College London Amyloidosis Research Fund.

My dear friend,Ian Hamilton, died of this horrific and hugely under researched disease .

Amyloidosis is the name for a group of rare, serious conditions caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein called amyloid in organs and tissues throughout the body.

The build-up of amyloid proteins (deposits) can make it difficult for the organs and tissues to work properly. Without treatment, this can lead to organ failure and death.
