SIGNAL is a registered charity working with people who are deaf or have hearing loss in the UK and Africa. SIGNAL works to build deaf friendly communities to challenge the stigma and isolation faced by people with this hidden disability through education, learning and greater access to health services.
In the UK, our work is focused in the rural county of Shropshire. Our activities include support groups, outreach work and training which all help people with deafness, hearing loss or tinnitus to lead full lives.
In Africa, SIGNAL works in Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia with teachers, community leaders and the families of deaf children to challenge negative attitudes towards deafness. We focus on integrating young deaf people into school to ensure they have access to quality education.
