Hope for Uzima's teenagers

During my visit to Uzima Day Care Centre in western Kenya, I worked with children living in extreme poverty. Uzima gives them an education and two meals a day - neither of which could be guaranteed otherwise.
I met Dorkas - a 14 year old girl who has no parents. She lives with her 2 younger siblings and 1 older sister in a mud hut close to her Uncles hut. I asked her uncle if he looked after the children - he said he does what he can but he has his own family and besides at the age of 14 he says 'she can look after herself'. Dorkas' older sister is rarely at home - she goes away to earn money for her siblings by selling herself to men.
Dorkas attends Uzima where she is relatively safe and cared for by the amazing team there. However, she will soon be too old to attend and will then have to return to her village and a life of extreme poverty and hardship with little prospects.
We want to give Dorkas and the other teenagers a chance of getting employment and an opportunity to climb out of poverty. To do this they need vocational training in skills such as sewing, metalwork, farming and carpentry. To build three classrooms, equip them and employ vocational teachers we need £50,000.
