Fundraise to build Sachibondu Hospital

I'm raising £3000 for the construction of the much needed new Sachibondu hospital in a remote location in North West Zambia for which I will also be helping out this summer for three months! Funds raised goes directly towards funding the material and labour cost of the construction.

As part of the fundraiser I'm cycling 850km in 8 days from Edingburgh to London at the end of April!

Here's some more information about the project:

Sachibondu Rural Health Centre is a small health centre located near Mwinilunga in the remote and rural area of North West Zambia. It is the only health centre in a 300km radius and is used by thousands of people every year, some travelling up to 10 days from Angola and DC Congo.

When the existing facility was built, resources were scarce and the rooms are inadequately ventilated and suffer from low light levels. These environments can perpetuate the spread of disease, where someone who came in to get a broken foot treated may contract a serious infection while sitting in the waiting room. But there are ways we can change this.

The new hospital will be built with better design that utilises natural ventilation and increased daylight in order to lower health risks and provide more usable and enjoyable space. What's more, with a new and bigger facility the government will upgrade its status from a 'Health Centre' to a 'Hospital'; fully trained doctors will be sent to the hospital and this will make it possible to undertake emergency surgeries and treatment.

So far, the project has also brought a lot of benefits to the Sachibondu community by employing 120 people across construction, brick production and site hospitality, with a mix of men and women from a number of local villages, encouraging gender equality and educating people with skills and knowledge of new construction methods.

In order for us to continue this amazing work this summer, I need your help to raise £3,000. All donations will go directly to fund everything from materials to local labour.
