Nordic Walking Marathon
Event date: 15th September 2018
Andrew Foster is raising money for Warwickshire Young Carers
My story
I would like to raise awareness of young Carers and much needed funds to offer support to them. I will be Nordic walking 27 miles at the Purbeck Nordic Walking Festival on the 15th September. Those that know me well will recognise that this will be a huge physical and mental challenge for me. Even though I am as fit as never before (I used to be a so called couch potato) I was a long way from completing a marathon on challenging hilly terrain when I agreed to the challenge.
Only a few more days to get there now, I trained hard to complete the 27 miles!
I would like to raise money for a small but hugely important local charity: Warwickshire Young Carers. They support carers from as young as 6 years old aiming to make a difference to their lifes, which often have less opportunities in education or even just time to be a child. There are about 700 000 young people in the UK that care for a parent, grand parent or sibling, that's 5% of the UK population! Often they don't even realise that they are a carer. Warwickshire Young Carers provide important, confidential support, rest bite and other activities to those young people.
The services offered by Warwickshire Young Carers include:
- Someone to listen to young carers and support them * Help young carers to access help from other agencies and service providers * Help young carers to get their point across and be heard * Provide opportunities for young carers to meet other young carers, make new friends, learn new skills and have fun * Regular group activities, workshops, days out and short-breaks * Provide support for young carers with their educational needs * Help young carers to achieve their goals, have their own life and succeed in the things they may be struggling with * Give young carers and opportunity to chat, have a laugh and just relax.
Please pledge and donate whatever you can. I will be Nordic Walking the 27 miles on 15th September in Purbeck, Dorset, it's a very challenging course (and 1 mile more than a Marathon) but I will complete it!
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Warwickshire Young Carers.
