Good luck with the swim!
Event date: 2nd September 2017
Greg Jennings is raising money for West Wight Sports & Community Centre
Swim completed on Saturday the 2nd of September on a beautiful morning. Thanks to Simon my swimming partner Kate our kayak guardian, all the other hardy swimmers who all made it across; and an army of organisers volunteers and supporters. It was a brilliant, beautiful, well organised experience that will remain with me for a very long time!
Im doing the swim - 1.2 miles as the crow flies from Hurst castle to Colwell Bay - to celebrate moving to the Isle of Wight, which has been a dream come true for me and my wife.
We've come to Freshwater and found a great community with the Sports Centre at its heart - staffed by some really nice people, but in dire need of financial support as a self funding volunteer run enterprise.
I love the woods, the downs, the beaches and the sea and feel really lucky to be here.
Hospice care is invaluable at our time of greatest need and The Earl Mountbatten Hospice provides the kind of care on the island which made my Mum's last days so much more comfortable and dignified.
So doing the Solent Swim is the perfect way for me to challenge myself - 18 months after my walking football career was brought to a cruelly premature end! I get to spend time training in the waters of Colwell and Totland and raise money for some great and worthwhile causes, while pushing myself beyond doing a few lengths in a warm pool.
The West Wight Sports Centre gets the first £250 in donations, and then any excess is split between the Centre and the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
A lot of time and energy goes into the organisation of the swim and ensuring that all the swimmers are prepared and safe - which I really appreciate.
So if you are able to make a donation, however small, to a couple of worthy causes, I would be very grateful.
If not, wish me luck with a challenge which seems like it's quite ambitious. What's the worst that could happen.....
Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto West Wight Sports & Community Centre.
