Friends of Khasdobir

Description:
Friends of Khasdobir raises funds to support the educational and welfare work of KYAG, a community project in Sylhet, Bangladesh. Children from illiterate families are prepared for entry to primary school and, later, helped through high school (where fees have to be paid and books bought). Women are trained to earn their own living through sewing. There are three adult literacy classes. And there are always people coming to the project office seeking the small hand-outs that are literally the difference between life and death. The project helps to break down the barriers between the indigenous population of the village and incomers who have moved to the village in search of work in Sylhet town. It creates links between the Muslims in the village and the Hindus on the near-by tea estates. And it plays a major part in developing the self-confidence of women and their sense of their own self-worth.
Friends of Khasdobir, originally formed under the auspices of Toc H, was registered as an independent charity in October 2006. It is currently sending £36,000 a year to KYAG in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
