About Friends of the Earth Scotland

Friends of the Earth Scotland exists to help people in Scotland look after the planet for everyone?s future. We think globally and act locally in Scotland, delivering solutions to climate change by enabling and empowering people to take both individual and collective action. We offer help to people with the big things in life ? helping to sustain a healthy society and environment. We believe that all of our children?s futures will be better because of what we do.

We research, develop and deliver campaigns and projects that contribute to tackling the threat of climate change. Our longer term aims are to focus on four of the largest sources of green house gas emissions in Scotland: 1. Energy Coal is the most polluting of all fossil fuels. New, unabated coal power in Scotland would be disastrous for our climate change targets. Our No More Carbon Dinosaurs campaign opposes calls for no new coal without strict emissions limits on existing coal fired power stations 2. Transport Unnecessary construction of new roads and bridges and airport expansion is driving growth in car and air travel, which contributes to climate change. In contrast, promoting travel by public transport brings a number of environmental, social and economic advantages. 3. Food & agriculture GM food is an unnecessary and expensive distraction from real food security issues, with serious concerns about cross contamination of GM into other crops. 4. Waste. Sending waste to landfill not only squanders valuable resources, but also leads to methane gas emissions from landfill sites, which contributes to climate change. Our Communities Reducing Excess Waste (CREW) campaign is an exciting waste prevention programme designed to educate and motivate householders and businesses in communities across Scotland.
