Fran Holdsworth is raising money for West Wight Sports & Community Centre
My personal challenge for this year is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 m. Walking long distances on crutches day after day is exhausting and painful so climbing Kili is a form of madness but I just keep thinking I can do it. It is the ultimate test of my bravery, strength and determination.
I've just completed 3 days walking in Wales where I achieved more than I ever believed possible so, for the next stage of my Kili training, I'm joining the team of 34 people attempting the 3 Peaks Challenge at the end of July to raise funds for my local sports centre. Even I know that conquering the 3 highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales in 24 hours is beyond me so instead I will be using the trip to gain practice on steep slopes and perhaps, who knows, I shall bag Snowdon.
The West Wight Sports & Community Centre was set up by local people and, despite the difficulties caused by the withdrawal of all Council funding, is still the hub of our community. The aim of the 3 Peaks team is to raise £10,000 in sponsorship to go towards a new climbing wall so I shall be very grateful if you dig as deep as you can to sponsor me for my 3 Peaks and Mount Kilimanjaro challenge.
