ARC funds Newcastle Scientists breakthrough vaccine that could "cure" the symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis. The single jab is claimed to have reversing effects on the bodies immune system to take it back to a state before it became diseased. Whilst Anti-TNF drugs are effective in the reduction of inflammation they greatly reduce the bodies natural defences and therefore make patients more prone to infections and illness. The new drug is claimed that it does not affect the immune system in the same way and is more effective in pain relief. As the vaccine is entering its first testing phase (8 arthritis sufferers from a nearby hospital) it is unknown what the long term effects on the body are but the scientists are hopeful that the vaccine works. As with any new research it can be quite expensive to set up so that's why ARC are investing in the project to oversee the results. This is why we need to keep donating to make sure the research stays on track and a cure for Rheumatoid Arthritis could be developed. Aaron.
