Saint Francis Hospice is an independent charity leading the way in palliative care and serves around one million people living in Havering, Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, Brentwood and West Essex. Our expertise covers many life limiting illnesses including cancer, Motor Neurone Disease, heart disease and respiratory illness. Patient choice is at the heart of everything we do. We?re all about enabling people to truly live with dignity. How and where we do that varies according to a person?s needs and preferences. It?s a complex operation requiring a range of joined up services. Last year we supported over 4,000 people and helped 1,405 new referrals. Our In-Patient Unit had 331 new admissions with an average length of stay of 14.3 days. Our Day Hospice accepted 152 new patients and supported 2,244 attendances. Community Palliative Care helped 615 new patients, delivered 2,287 visits and handled 9,249 telephone calls. Hospice at Home helped 429 new referrals and provided 2,694 home visits and 12,154 hours of care. Bereavement support helped 397 children and adults, delivered 1,875 counselling sessions and 625 telephone support calls. Our dedicated volunteers delivered a staggering 43,000 hours of support. We strive to reach the most vulnerable and marginalised, who are at risk of missing out of specialist care. Our holistic approach to palliative care makes Saint Francis unique and as a vital local service we rely on support from our community to continue our work.
