Isabel Hospice is a registered charity which provides free palliative care and support for patients and their families living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses such as MND, end stage renal conditions, end stage heart conditions, respiratory conditions or other neurological conditions, throughout eastern Hertfordshire. The population we serve is almost 370,000 people and last year we cared for 1,555 people but we know the need is great and there is so much more we could do.
Care is based on the simple idea that patients are ordinary people living with physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs. The Hospice provides enormous support to families and friends, caring for the patients and all those around them.
Founded in 1982 the Hospice provides a wide range of services including an In-Patient Hospice in Welwyn Garden City which can accommodate up to 8 patients, Living Well with Isabel services in Welwyn Garden City, Bishop?s Stortford, Waltham Cross and Stanstead Abbotts, a Home Care Team providing support and nursing care in patients? homes, and a Family Support and Bereavement Service.
A fully trained team of volunteers support our specialist medical and clinical teams, ensuring that patients and their families receive the best possible care. In addition, Isabel Hospice?s team of 12 Isabel Nurse Specialists, work closely with all local GPs, and are available to give advice and support to patients and their families and to refer them to appropriate parts of the Hospice as necessary.
All our services are free of charge, and the cost of providing these services is budgeted at around £5 million.
Our vision is of a world where communities talk openly about death and dying. Everyone lives life to the full and dies with dignity in the place of their choice knowing their loved ones are supported.
All Areas are supported by trained, caring and dedicated volunteers. Isabel Hospice works closely with the Local Health Authority, NHS Trusts, Primary Health Care Teams and District Councils.
