Callums Skydive to raise money for Alzheimer?s Research

Event date: 6th October 2018

My story

I have decided to do a skydive on the 6th October 2018 in the bid to raise money to try find a cure for the horrible disease which killed my lovely grandad last year On February the 1st. A portion of the sponsorship raised may be used to pay for part or all of my jump cost, A minimum of 50% what is raised will go to my chosen charity . Alzheimer?s is very close to me and the family as I had to watch not only my grandad but my bestfriend slowly lose him memory and his own responsibilities more and more each day. My grandad was first diagnosed with Alzheimer?s in 2012 when I just started high school and I wasn?t too sure what it is and what the disease was capable of all I knew was that it was going to change my grandad but I never knew it would change him that bad... my grandad lived with us for another year and a half while my lovely sister took care of him as much as she could when she was at home and everyone else also helped too, gradually over time it started to get worse and everybody was noticing it , he would have random tantrums and flip outs but I know that wasn?t my grandad behaving like that , my grandad had the kindest heart and wouldn?t say or do anything to hurt anyone at all and that?s how we knew it was getting worse. My mum finally made a very brave decision where guilt would stay with her for the rest of her life and that was to have him moved into a care home , this was our last resort and we did all try are hardest to make everything seem okay even though we knew deep down it wasn?t , I watched my grandad lose his capability of telling the time and remembering what ate for dinner all in a short space of a year and a half. My grandad was looked after very well in the care home by some lovely nurses who made him feel like he was at home and they made the process so much easier not for just us but for him. Months and years passed my grandad started to detoriate and he didn?t really know who I was or who anyone was anymore , he was forgetting how to eat and was bed bound for his last months alive, I never knew what pain was until I had to watch my grandad slowly fade away and I couldn?t do nothing but just pray everyday that isn?t going to be painful for him, on the 1st of February 2017 my mum had a gut feeling that she needed to be up the care home , she didn?t know why but she knew she had to. Once she go to the care home my grandad was there slowly passing away , he was holding on so that my mum could say goodbye to her dad , even though that might not be classed as a special moment but my mum got to hold her dad whilst he was slowly fading away and for once in a very long time she felt at ease , she knew this was an end of a beautiful life and a very long hard battle with Alzheimer?s, he suffered for 5 years and I couldn?t of been prouder of him. This is my story and this is the reason I can so keen on raising money to find a cure for this disease destroying families and people everyday, so please donate some money, any amount is appreciated so Much , every bit of donation goes straight to Alzheimer?s Research UK
Thank you
