Zimkids

In late 2005 Charlene Stotter, now Director of Zimkids, felt God calling her back to her native Zimbabwe to do what she could to serve Him in a country rife with poverty and political instability. The journey began by Charlene supporting just one orphan with food provision, clothing and Christian education. Over the next three years Charlene realised her potential to reach out to more children with the help of a team. This team became Zimkids.

We currently have 6 different projects which we run across Harare and in Mutoko. They are as follows;

ZIMLEARN Most children in Zimbabwe cannot afford to go to school. Zimkids helps in finding places at schools, paying school fees and extra lesson fees, purchasing uniforms as well as teaching basic literacy to those in need. There are three terms per year, each of them running for three months.

ZIMLEARN Most children in Zimbabwe cannot afford to go to school. Zimkids helps in finding places at schools, paying school fees and extra lesson fees, purchasing uniforms as well as teaching basic literacy to those in need. There are three terms per year, each of them running for three months.

The people we are supporting are very poor and cannot afford transport. Therefore getting a child into school requires a lot of driving around between schools, picking up various certificates and also repeated trips into town to buy school uniforms. Most shops do not stock all the uniforms all the time. It can be quite frustrating!

ZIMBEES Zimbees is an ongoing initiative where beehives are constructed, placed and maintained in order to harvest honey. Honey is useful for generating income, and for medicinal purposes e.g. burns, sore throats, immune-booster for people that are HIV positive. Zimkids also trains people in beekeeping from the construction of hives to the harvest and extraction of honey. This can eventually become a self-sustaining business for them.

We have hives in and around Harare and Mutoko.

ZIMHOME The Zimkids team are caretakers of a big house that serves as a base for the operations. The care of such a large property is costly and requires constant attention. The property is the main venue for most of the day to day projects done by the team. It is the centre to which people come asking for help and also plays host to the many volunteers Zimkids receives annually.

ZIMGROW This is in an ongoing agriculture training course where everything is cultivated from maize to vegetables and herbs. Produce is given to families in need.

ZIMGO Zimkids runs from two bases within Zimbabwe and seeks to run from more, as the need is widespread. Our focus at Base Two is empowering people to become self sufficient through knowledge of farming, beekeeping and various other practical life skills.

ZIMKNOW This is a training scheme whereby people asking for help from Zimkids are taken in for one month at a time and taught a life skill (e.g. farming). They also receive teaching on the bible, learn to order their priorities, learn about character and the importance of work. They are paid per day or half day of work. They also receive a good meal at work.

There is a group for men and a separate group for women. Included in the training scheme is a sewing group for women.
