About The Zacchaeus 2000 Trust

Our mission is to fight the causes of poverty and to help households in extreme poverty in the UK to access the justice system when they face claims by statutory authorities and court proceedings by:

- acting as McKenzie Friends, who are court-recognised non-legal supporters of litigants in person, for poor and vulnerable debtors facing the authorities or courts proceedings for debt or fines; - training and supporting volunteers to act as McKenzie Friends to support vulnerable and impoverished debtors - campaigning to raise awareness about UK poverty by setting up and pursuing test cases through the courts and by lobbying Parliament to change the law on issues identified from our work with vulnerable and impoverished debtors where the law, the legal process or the benefits system operate oppressively or unfairly.

Funds raised may be used to ...

Funds may be channelled to our Relief of Poverty fund where small amounts of money are used to relieve some of the financial stress those we help experience such as transportation cost, purchase of basic necessities until their benefits are returned or to offset small amounts of debt. Funds raised are also used to pay for our McKenzie Friends training which we conduct usually below cost, that no one may be excluded.
