Wirral YFC India Mission 2011

Why are we going to Hyderabad?: For some time Wirral YFC have been exploring opportunities to take a small group of young people on a life changing trip that would be as challenging as it was affirming. We also wanted to go somewhere were we could make a real difference in the lives of the people we met. Of course the safety of the young people was also paramount in our considerations. Operation Mobilisation helped us choose Hyderabad.

Who are we going with?: Operation Mobilisation (OM) is a charity who carry out humanitarian work in over 100 nations. In India OM have over 1,400 staff and volunteers who work in partnership with Indian people to help and support the heavily oppressed Dalit people. Hyderabad is the HQ of OM in India and it is here that our team will stay during our trip. OM will pick us up from the airport and will stay with us at all times. Their local knowledge and years of experience will ensure we have a safe time.

What are the dates? We will fly to Hyderabad airport on the 1st August 2011 and will return to the UK on the 9th/10th August 2011 (Flight dependant).

What will we be doing? The trip will be a very hands-on experience and all who attend will be expected to work hard while we are away. It?s definitely not a holiday! The program will be a mixture of teaching English in a local primary school, meeting Children in the village slums, serving the local people and assisting the existing OM staff in their work at the OM.HQ.

Why do we need funding? To make the trip a success we intend to take a team of 4 leaders and 11 young people. Each member of the team will be required to raise £850 and they will do this together in small fundraising groups through sponsorship events.

However, some of the young people who are going will really struggle to find the money because of their personal situations. Some will be able to raise a large amount from their friends and family by doing the Wirral Costal Walk, others will struggle to raise £100 for walking the same 15miles. We would love to subsidise their places to make it possible for them to join us and as such we would like to ask for your help.

We would be very grateful if you would consider giving here to make the trip a reality for those from less affluent families.

We had hoped this site would raise £3000 towards our £12,000 target. However, in act of incredible kindness we were given an anonymous donation of £2000 in the first few days (Thank you so much!!!). As such we have increased our target to £5000.
