John Sinclair is raising money for Mamie Martin Fund

My story

Willie and John Sinclair, a father and son partnership dating back 34 and a bit years now, are taking part in the 2014 Etape Caledonia in order to raise a load of money to send girls to secondary school in Malawi who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford their education.

The Etape is an 81 mile closed road bike race in highland Perthshire and upwards of 5000 participants are expected to complete the route this year. We hope to stay out of the way of the speedy racers and complete the route unscathed.

Education for a secondary school girl in Malawi costs a mere (by Western standards) £300 per year but unfortunately this is just too much for some families to afford in what is one of the poorest countries in the world.

The Mamie Martin Fund was established in 1993 by Margaret and John Sinclair (senior) - Willie and John's parents and grandparents respectively - in memory of Margaret's mother who had lived and worked with her husband Jack in Malawi in the 1920s. It has sent hundreds of girls to school over the years and we hope to help the fund continue it's work through our cycling efforts.

Any size of donations are welcome so please don't be shy. If all of our facebook friends each gave us £1 we could send two Malawian girls to school for a year.

(As part of the entry requirements for the Etape we are also raising £300 each 'offline' for another very worthwhile cause - Marie Curie Cancer Care.)
