Dementia Forward - Katy's Great North Run

Event date: 7th September 2014

Katy White is raising money for Dementia Forward

My story

I am running the Great North Run in September and hoping to raise as much money as possible for Dementia Forward. This is a small local charity based in Ripon who are passionate about supporting people living with Dementia and those who care for them in the Ripon and Harrogate area.

As many of you will know, my Mum Edna was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia last year. Since then, she has struggled to cope with this frightening illness. To begin with she was able to continue living independently at home with the help of carers but has recently moved into a Care Home. For our family it has been very upsetting to see Mum's deterioration and at times frightening - not least when she was found totally bewildered wandering the street in the middle of the night. She was always an avid reader, reading every word (apart from the Sports pages!) of the Guardian newspaper every day. However, she can no longer read even the simplest book or even tell the time.

Dementia Forward provided support to Mum, making sure she received the best care possible. They provide a number of services and different avenues of support for anyone who is interested in dementia, whether they have received a diagnosis, have concerns about their memory, support someone with memory problems or work in dementia care. So I would like to raise as much money as possible to support the excellent work Dementia Forward.

Any donation you can offer will be hugely appreciated and used wisely to provide practical support to families who are today going through similar issues that our fami8ly has already gone through.

Thank you for checking out my page. Making a donation is fast, easy and secure thanks to Give as you Live Donate. They'll take your donation and pass it onto Dementia Forward.
