Wendy's Journey

Event date: 2nd May 2015

Wendy Payne is raising money for Womb Transplant UK

My story

The research and medical team at Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea Hospital, Imperial College London need to raise £500,000 with the help of the Womb Transplant UK Charity in order to complete their research and carry out the first five transplants in the UK.

Many women have had a hysterectomy due to cancer or other illnesses and 1 in 5,000 women are born with a condition called Mayer Rokitanski Kuster Hauser Syndrome (MRKH) meaning they were born without a womb.

Did you know that for one reason or another, approximately 15,000 women of child bearing age in the UK have no womb? Imagine that... never knowing the joy holding your own baby in your arms.

With your help, Womb Transplant UK will be one step closer to their goal of developing a safe procedure to allow women to have the family they long for. Later in 2015, 5 women will be selected to undergo this operation and your donation will help give hope to these women and women of the future. One of the greatest gifts you can give!

So how am I going to do my bit?

I will be taking on 5 charity runs. Each of a distance of 5k making it 5 kilometres for every woman who will be chosen for a life changing transplant.

Those who know me will know that I'm no runner and even one 5k will be tough for my first ever charity run so please donate whatever you can and though this fundraising, I hope to raise £500. That will be £100 for each woman chosen.

Here's a list of my booked runs so you can follow my progress...

~2nd May 2015 - Cheltenham Blacklight 5k

~5th July - Dyrham Park 5k

~15th August - The Color Run Birmingham 5k

~14th November - The Autumn Shakespeare 5k

~12th December - The Gloucester Cupcake 5k

Here's how your generous donations be used,

~£50 - Blood test, immunosuppressant medication & swabs

~£500 - Imaging (CT/MRI/Ultrasound), fertility medication, patient travel costs if outside of London

~£1,000 - Egg collection, embryo transfer, hospital stay following operation & correct surgical kit.

Please donate whatever you can. It really would mean the world to so many women in the UK.

Thank you, Wendy x
