About The Matthew Syms Memorial Fund
Matthew Syms was 18 years old when he died in October 2006. The summer before he died, Matthew visited South Africa with the Scouts. He really enjoyed everything he did in the country, and so when we decided to set up a fund in his memory, we chose schools in the Kwa Zulu Natal region of South Africa to be the beneficiaries. The Matthew Syms Memorial Fund is currently working in partnership with the David Rattray Foundation to build a classroom in Matthew's memory in Kwa Zulu Natal. Any future donations may be used to further benefit the school or others in the area with smaller projects.

A classroom was recently built at Nhloya school in Kwa Zulu Natal, in memory of Matthew, using funds raised by the MSMF. Future projects may include buying equipment for schools in the area, or contributing towards smaller buildings or facilities. As we work in close partnership with the David Rattray Foundation, we can direct funds raised to specific projects, and know exactly what the money raised will be used for. All projects supported will relate to education in South Africa's Kwa Zulu Natal.
