About The Art Fund
The Art Fund is an independent art charity that exists to ensure that as much art as possible enters the public collections of museums and galleries in the UK. The Art Fund successfully led the campaign for free admission to museums and galleries in the UK to ensure everyone has the opportunity to enjoy great works of art.
Since 1903 the Art Fund has helped over 600 museums throughout the UK to acquire more than 850,000 pieces of art. Pieces saved include The Three Graces (V&A); the Rokeby Venus (National Gallery); Rodin?s The Kiss (Tate); Botticelli?s Virgin Adoring the Sleeping Christ Child (National Gallery of Scotland); the Girona Treasure (Ulster Museum) and Bill Viola?s Observance (Walker Museum, Liverpool).
The public funding available to museums to spend on acquisitions has fallen dramatically in recent years, leaving many museums unable to purchase any works of art, so the role of the Art Fund has never been more important. For example the money spent on...
