About THE SILVER STAR APPEAL
Launched in January 2007 Silver Star campaigns to provide diabetes awareness. The charity has its headquarters in Manchester and runs a Mobile Diabetes Units which travels the country carrying out important diabetes testing in the community. As well as the Mobile Diabetes Unit Silver Star has a Diabetes Centre in Leicester providing free tests for the public and more centres are planned for the future. The main role of the Mobile Diabetes Unit is to carry out important diabetes testing in the community and to promote culturally sensitive healthcare, with particular regard to the thigh prevalence of diabetes amongst the South Asian community in the major towns and cities of Britain. The Unit travels to local community centres, schools, work places and other organisations.

2.2 THE OBJECTS ARE: 2.2.1 TO EDUCATE AND TRAIN THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN THE UNITED KINGDOM (INCLUDING CONSULTANTS, DOCTORS, NURSES, DIETICIANS AND OTHER MEDICAL SUPPORT STAFF) IN ALL MATTERS RELATING TO DIABETES AND RELATED DISEASES ("DIABETES"), INCLUDING IN PARTICULAR ITS CAUSES, SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT, RESEARCH INTO IT, AND THE PROBLEMS FACED BY PEOPLE WHO SUFFER FROM IT; 2.2.2 TO PROMOTE AND PROTECT THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH OF PERSONS SUFFERING FROM DIABETES, IN PARTICULAR BY PROVIDING PUBLIC SCREENING FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES ; 2.2.3 TO PROMOTE RESEARCH INTO DIABETES AND TO PUBLISH THE USEFUL RESULTS OF SUCH RESEARCH; AND 2.2.4 TO APPLY THE INCOME AND THE CAPITAL OF THE CHARITY FOR SUCH OTHER CHARITABLE PURPOSES AND SUCH REGISTERED CHARITIES AS THE TRUSTEES IN THEIR ABSOLUTE DISCRETION THINK FIT FROM TIME TO TIME (THE "OBJECTS"); 2.3 THE TRUSTEES MUST USE THE INCOME AND MAY USE THE CAPITAL OF THE CHARITY IN PROMOTING THE OBJECTSS
