About Tenovus the Cancer Charity

For over 40 years Tenovus has focussed on the delivery of care and support to cancer patients and their families, whilst also funding world class research into the causes, characteristics and cures for some of the most common forms of the disease. This pioneering research has lead to some of the worlds most remarkable breakthroughs in the treatment of cancer. This pioneering work all began in 1943, when ten Cardiff business men set up a charity in gratitude for the excellent treatment and care that one of their friends had received at the Cardiff Royal Infirmary. Little did they know that this humble, but noble, gesture would herald the birth of Wales largest cancer charity, Tenovus.

Scientists at the Tenovus Centre for Cancer Research, based at Cardiff University, were the first to show that the drug Tamoxifen was able to halt the growth of breast cancer in its tracks.
