The overriding aim of Step Forward is to improve the quality of the lives of young people aged 11-25 in Tower Hamlets and the surrounding areas. Step Forward provides a wide range of unique, innovative and responsive services to young people. These include free, independent and confidential information, advice, counselling and personal development activities. In partnership with the PCT we also host a weekly sexual health clinic. This provides free access and information to advice and support about sexual health. Step Forward is situated in London’s most deprived borough and work with its most vulnerable young people. The overriding aim of Step Forward is to improve the quality of the lives of young people aged 11-25 in Tower Hamlets and the surrounding areas. Step Forward provides a wide range of unique, innovative and responsive services to young people. Our services are well used and a clear indicator of our success is the fact that the number of young people using the service has doubled over the last 2 years. In order to maintain existing service levels and to support future growth we have a continued need to seek funding. Many of the young people accessing our services have complex and multiple needs. The structure of the organisation enables us to meet their needs through longer-term work and applying a multi-disciplinary holistic approach. This ensures that a young persons emotional and practical support needs are both addressed. For example if a young person came to us and presented as being homeless, the first thing we would do is help them find safe and secure accommodation. We would also aim to explore the reasons why they had become homeless. Common reasons could include; family or relationship breakdown, sexual abuse, pregnancy, lack of education and training, difficulties in communicating needs and financial problems. We then work with a young person to develop a holistic personalised package of support designed to enable them to deal with trauma and make positive changes to their lives and behaviour.
