About Spirit of Soccer
SPIRIT OF SOCCER:
Spirit of Soccer is a charity which uses soccer(football) to teach children about the dangers of landmines and ERW (Explosive Remnants of War).
A landmine is an explosive device which is hidden in the ground and is designed to kill or maim people. ERW (previously know as "UXO"-Unexploded ordnance) is anything that has been fired or launched but has failed to detonate, such as bullets, artillery shells or cluster bombs.
It's estimated that there are, at present, around 60 million landmines in the world. Every year, around 20,000 people are killed or maimed by landmines and ERW. About 40% of them are innocent children.
Spirit of Soccer has provided helpful clinics to the Children of Bosnia (former Yugoslavia) and Moldova. Currently (2009-2010) we will continue our projects operating in Cambodia and Iraq.

(1) TO EDUCATE AND ASSIST YOUNG PERSONS THROUGH THEIR LEISURE ACTIVITIES SO AS TO DEVELOP THEIR PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND SPIRITUAL CAPACITIES SO THAT THEY MAY GROW TO FULL MATURITY AS INDIVIDUALS AND MEMBERS OF SOCIETY AND THAT THEIR CONDITIONS OF LIFE MAY BE IMPROVED IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY BY THE PROVISION OF TRAINING FOR AND PLAYING THE GAME OF ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA. (2) THE PRESERVATION AND PROTECTION OF HEALTH FOR YOUNG PERSONS IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA BY THE PROVISION OF MINE AWARENESS.
