SPARCknit - the 60ft scarf knit-a-thon!

Event date: 14th June 2012

SPARC is raising money for SPARC - Stockport Progress & Recovery Centre

My story

Stockport Progress and Recovery Centre (SPARC) is a local charity that supports adults from across the borough of Stockport who experience or are recovering from mental health problems.

On Thursday 14th June we are holding a sponsored ?knit-a-thon? at the Arden Arms on Millgate in the centre of Stockport, from 12:30 until 9pm.

A group of people, including service users, volunteers and staff from SPARC, members of the 'Mad Knitters Tea Party' knitting group and other supporters, will knit in relays throughout the day to create a 60-ft long scarf which will be used to 'yarn-bomb' a venerable oak tree in our gardens as part of an open day being held in August.

The knit-a-thon is a triple celebration of Small Charities Week, World Wide Knit In Public Week and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, as well as celebrating the knitting skills of everyone taking part. We hope it will be a fun day as well as an opportunity to raise much needed funds for the centre and to promote the services we offer.
