The RSPB was founded in 1889, by a small group of concerned people who realised that the craze for using feathers in ladies' fashions was threatening bird populations.

Over the years that have passed since then, the threats may have changed, but the RSPB's determination hasn't.

Throughout the RSPB's history, it has worked to protect birds- and in doing so, to protect a huge variety of other species that live in the complex network that makes up our amazing planet.

Birds are under more pressure today than at any time in our history, due to changing farming methods over the years, climate change, growing demands for water, expansion in some regions of urban areas and transport infrastructure, and the over-exploitation of the seas. But in partnership with members and supporters, the RSPB will stand up for birds and for nature and never falter in it's work.
