Event date: 18th June 2016
Hello
My name is Nicola Covey from Sheffield i will be taking part in a tandem skydive from 13,000 feet on the 18th June 2016.
in aid of The Neuro Foundation , a charity which is very close to my heart, I would like people to support me by the way of sponsoring me :)
The reason why its so close to my heart is that my son Bailey was diagnosed with the genetic condition Neurofibromatsis at 6 months old.
Bailey is now 12 and at senior school and as found the change from junior school challenging, he enjoys football and going out with his friends and his family
Bailey has a few learning difficulties and struggles with reading and writing, he is now doing his school work on a keyboard and that really helps him .
Bailey really enjoys school and he is always tries his best . He also gets a lot of tension head aches, these are due to NF and undergoes regular MRI scans to make sure Bailey is clear of tumors.
I am wanting to increase awareness of NF and raise funds for The Neuro Foundation (it was after a meeting with myself school and one of The Neuro Foundation Specialists that Bailey was giving a keyboard to do his school work on and school seems to understand more about NF)
As a mum you only want the best for your children
and if by me doing this skydive from 13,000 I can help The Neuro Foundation help a family and support a child with NF.
please help me give back a little, by sponsoring me and if you would be so kind as to share this page so others can sponsor as well
About the charity
The Neurofibromatosis Association was established in 1981 by families with a diagnosis of neurofibromatosis to help others. It became a registered charity in 1982, and a limited company in 2000. In September 2010 it changed its name to The Neuro Foundation. This is the working name of the charity, while its legal name is retained as The Neurofibromatosis Association.
There Vision
To improve the lives of those affected by neurofibromatosis
About NF
NF is caused by a mutation (or spelling mistake) in one of the genes. About half of the people who have NF have no family history. In other words, it has occurred ?out of the blue? with no-one else in the family being affected. This is called a spontaneous gene mutation. The other half of people will have inherited NF from their mother or father.
NF occurs in all races. It affects both men (and boys) and women (and girls) equally.
NF varies from one person to another even in the same family. Some people will be mildly affected with very few health problems. Others will have some serious health problems that mean that daily life is difficult and it restricts what they can do.
NF1 is a common genetic condition. The ?spelling mistake? in the gene is found on chromosome 17 and occurs in 1 in 3000 of the population. There are approximately 25,000 people in the UK diagnosed with NF1
