2011 London Marathon to complete orphanage for Kenyan children

Event date: 17th April 2011

Bertrand Olivier is raising money for The Friends of Julius and Dora Children's Centre, Maseno

My story

Stop Press -- Marathon completed in 3h55. I was on target for most of the race but the heat got the better of me in mile 25. Still, it's a London Personal Best.

For my fourth Marathon, I have chosen to run for a charity of which I am a trustee, which is in the process of building an orphanage in Maseno (Kenya) and already looking after 10 children.

There is an overwhelming need for places for either orphaned or abandoned children in Kenya and the Friends of Julius and Dora Centre Charity raises funds in the UK to bring hope to a few. Our plans objectives are small - initially to build a home for ten children, eventually perhaps growing to 40, while also establishing a way of educating them and giving them skills for independent living in due time.

After a difficult London marathon last year, I ran my best marathon in Berlin in September 2010 in 3h51. My objective for London this year is to improve on this and finish in 3h42 or less.

Support my cause to provide the necessary psychological incentive in my race as well as ensure that some children may have a future.

Many thanks for your support.

Bertrand
