100km from London to Brighton for Dylan and GIFTuk

Event date: 23rd May 2015

Jules is raising money for Gastroparesis & Intestinal Failure Trust

My story

On 23rd May, I will be running 100km from London to Brighton (london2brightonchallenge.com) to raise awareness about my gorgeous nephew, Dylan's, rare and devastating condition and to raise money for GIFTuk: The Gastroparesis and Intestinal Failure Trust.

Having suffered severe reflux as a baby, Dylan had to be tube-fed, and after a series of complications, operations and frequent lengthy stays at Leeds General Infirmary, he now has severe gastroparesis (paralysis of the stomach), meaning that he can't eat and needs to be fed directly into his bowel for 20 hours a day. Despite undergoing frequent painful procedures and often being very unwell, Dylan is the most incredible, resilient and smiley little character you can imagine and I am so proud to have him as my nephew!

The effect Dylan's condition has had on my sister Nikki, her husband, Leon and my 4 year old nephew, Caden is profound. I am in absolute awe of how strong they are and how they take on the unimaginable challenge of having, at times, a very poorly little boy.

By running 100km, I hope to raise awareness of this unusual condition and the impact of it, but also to raise money for GIFTuk, a charity who provide support and resources for families, like Dylan's, who are living with gastroparesis and intestinal failure. GIFTuk also donate a large proportion of fundraising directly to research into gastric motility disorders at the Wingate Institute, London and similar projects throughout the UK. For more information, please visit the website: giftuksupport.org

Please support this worthwhile cause by donating what you can and share the link to this fundraising page as widely as possible.

Thank you so much :)

Jules x
