Real Circumstance is a Colchester-based theatre company dedicated to exploring new ways of playmaking; to working with new writers and emergent artists; and to raising the profile of the East of England as a source of creative work.
In our plays we explore intimate human narratives that exist in detailed, three-dimensional worlds. Our work is underpinned by a unique process of rehearsal in which actors create fully-realised imaginary selves, able to respond truthfully to any given circumstance.

Real Circumstance is currently raising funds for the world premiere of OUR SHARE OF TOMORROW by Dan Sherer. Your support would help make this production happen. Your support would enable audiences to see and enjoy an emotionally complex play; and enable young artists to develop new skills, including the lead actress in her first professional stage role. Your support would also help to ensure Real Circumstance?s continued growth as an emerging company with a strong artistic identity. Our budget is focussed on paying people appropriately for their services (based on Independent Theatre Council guidelines), which is rare in much small-scale theatre but which we work hard and passionately to achieve. Real Circumstance considers that treating artists with this financial respect lays the foundation for a respectful and collaborative creative working environment, out of which work of the highest quality can be crafted. Our Share of Tomorrow will open at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2010, transfer to York Theatre Royal in September, and tour in Spring 2011.
