The Foresters Team - Bewdley Pub and Club Regatta 2014

Event date: 31st May 2014

David Gregory is raising money for Leukaemia Appeal Fund for Dudley

My story

Cy Wooldridge, Adam Perkins, Steve Taylor and I (with Luke Randle as reserve) are taking part in the Bewdley Pub and Club Regatta to raise funds for the charity supporting the Georgina Unit at Russells Hall Hospital. We're having six weeks of training with Rowing Club member (and our cox) Cath Allen teaching us how to row as a coxed four in the 90 team regatta. Hopefully we'll at least get past the first round and you never know we might get further than that! Each round is a 400m downstream race which lasts about a minute. Sounds easy? Try telling our arms and legs that but it's worth the pain if The Georgina Unit benefits from our efforts. The unit is funded by the Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Trust but the Appeal Fund provides the help and support, to all patients and families that use it, that the hospital can't provide. Although the unit was originally intended for the treatment of leukaemia it now treats all cancer related illnesses. As detection rates increase and treatments become more advanced the unit needs your help more today than ever.
The Foresters Arms in Wollaston has kindly sponsored the team by paying our entry fee. We hope that you'll be able to dig deep to support us too. If you know us you'll know how much this cause means to us. We've had support from Wolves player Jody Craddock (centre of the back row on the picture) whose son is curerntly being treated for leukaemia at Birmingham Children's Hospital and full support from Lee Jenkins (far left in the picture) who helps run the charity we are doing this all for. You can listen to the interview with Jody & Lee on 102.5 The Bridge on Tuesday nights between 7 and 10pm and Saturdays between 2 and 6pm.
