About The Neros Foundation

The Neros Foundation is a small charity that aspires to make a big difference to the lives of people living in hardship on the island of Flores in Indonesia. The Charity has a direct link to the Island of Flores, one of our trustees grew up there. Through Marcell we work effectively with the community to get things done that we would otherwise struggle to do, ensuring that the charities funds are utilised wisely and getting complete buy-in from the local people. Our ethos is that once a project is completed its handed back to the local community to maintain and develop further.

On his visits to the region Marcell has also been able to share what he has learnt about Western building techniques, so new buildings are being built with decent foundations!

Our next project is a huge step forward, and it will have a profound effect on the ability of villagers to access basic medical care. We may joke about hospital food, but can you imagine travelling up to 6 hours by truck to get to hospital and then not getting any food because you don't have relatives nearby who can bring it to you? No wonder villagers only seek medical help as a last resort, and sadly by then it is often too late. We have already purchased a plot of land at a key crossroads in the middle of the island and in the next 18-24 months we will work with local people to build a clinic. The project will be managed in Indonesia by one of the trustees Marcell Marung, and a firm of architects are giving their time for free to design the building. We estimate it will cost approximately £30,000 to complete the clinic which will then be contracted out to a local doctor who will deliver basic services in the heart of the community. In time we hope this will grow into a GP style service, giving people for miles around access to preventative medicine and health education, vaccinations etc.

THE TRUSTEES MUST APPLY THE INCOME OF THE CHARITY, AND MAY IN THEIR DISCRETION SPEND ALL OR PART OF THE CAPITAL OF THE CHARITY, IN FURTHERING THE FOLLOWING OBJECTS (THE OBJECTS): (A) TO RELIEVE HARDSHIP AND POVERTY AMONG THE COMMUNITIES AND RESIDENTS OF NEROS AND FLORES, BY PROVIDING (EITHER DIRECTLY OR BY MAKING GRANTS OF MONEY) GOODS OR SERVICES WHICH THOSE COMMUNITIES AND RESIDENTS COULD NOT OTHERWISE AFFORD; (B) TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT THE HEALTH, AND ADVANCE THE EDUCATION, OF THE COMMUNITIES AND RESIDENTS OF NEROS AND FLORES; AND (C) TO PROMOTE FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC THE CONSERVATION, PROTECTION AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE PHYSICAL AND NATURAL ENVIRONMENT OF NEROS AND FLORES.
