About my fundraising
12 young people from Hackney, members of Laburnum boat club, will be taking part in a sponsored Ring Paddle (47 miles) around London on Saturday 12 June. This endurance trial will be taken on in order to raise money for their dream trip to Nepal this October 2010. Once there, they will be Kayaking and whitewater rafting down the River Seti, and the Kaligandaki, which hosts one of Asia's most beautiful natural sites, with a massive gorge created by two Himalayan mountainsides. We will also be spending a week working with the local community in Pokhara.
The 12 young people have undertaken to organise and to raise all the money (£20,000) for the trip themselves. It will be an opportunity to experience a different culture to their own, create teamwork skills, and complete a major expedition. On return they will also take presentations to local youth clubs to help motivate other young people in Hackney to think big, and work hard to make their dreams come true.
