Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund

The Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund (MDIRF) was established in1988 by Jane and Michael Davies, the parents of Mark Davies, who died as a result of an accident at the Burghley Horse Trials. MDIRF is a National Charity which aims through financial and any other suitable means, to assist those who have sustained an injury in an equestrian related accident where other relief is inadequate or unobtainable. Many accidents occur whilst competing, though the majority happens whilst riding out from home. There is an average of two people a month left paralysed from a fall and many others are left permanently disabled through severe head injuries. The MDIRF provides expert medical, legal and financial advice as well as moral support to both beneficiaries and their families, often all that is needed is a listening ear. The MDIRF takes a leading role in issues relating to the welfare and safety of riders and plays a major part in issues of head protection and fixes fences as well as helping to lead the way in research, including the ENHAP comparison of protective helmets. The MDIRF helps people from all walks of life, anyone who is suffering or has suffered from a horse related accident could qualify for assistance to improve or maintain their quality of life.
