About The Leeds Society For Deaf and Blind People

Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People was founded in 1876. The principal mission of the Society is to meet the expressed needs of sensory-impaired people living in Leeds.

As a voluntary organisation, the Society exists to provide support, advice and other services to visually impaired, deaf, hard of hearing and deafblind people. We pride ourselves on offering practical solutions at a local level to encourage deaf, blind and deafblind people to feel less isolated by their impairment, to develop their confidence and skills, and to build bridges between the sensory impaired communities and the wider community. Funds raised may be used to ...

20 will help pay for a Social Communicator Guide to take a DeafBlind person out of their home for a couple of hours, to an activity of their choice: this may be a trip to the shops, a simple pleasure that many of us take for granted, that they would otherwise not be able to manage. Similarly, your money will help train further staff/volunteers to deliver an even greater range of activities for deaf children (did you know that four new babies born in Leeds every week are diagnosed with hearing difficulties), young adults with learning difficulties and the ever-increasing number of sensory impaired seniors.
