Loch Ness Marathon for So Precious

Event date: 29th September 2013

David Kilgour is raising money for So Precious

My story

So Precious is the charity created by my wife, Alison, in order to raise funds for the Neonatal Unit at Stirling Royal Infirmary (now Forth Valley Royal). Alison felt the need to give something back to the unit after they came to the rescue of our new-born son Lliam who was rushed into intensive care 12 hours after being born with suspected meningitits.

The charity is going from strength to strength and has raised approx £130,000 since founded in 2010. Supported entirely by volunteers every penny raised goes direct towards the purchase of capital equipment to further enhance the amazing service the unit provides.

Goaded into running to fight the flab and dodge the looming mid-life crisis I've trained up to run this marathon as a wing man for Lliam's God-Father David Currie, himself a neonatal graduate, who is also raising funds for So Precious - I just hope I can keep up!

Lliam was more recently rushed into Kids Ward at Forth Valley after a stomach bug meant he was unable to keep his essential medication down. Their swift and critical actions at this time and Lliam's even swifter recovery has just served to harden our resolve to raise further funds for the unit and the funds I raise from this marathon will go through So Precious to support the kids ward as they support our neonatal graduates through any other trauma's they face.
