Lisa Wright is raising money for Chris Westwood Charity For Children With Physical Disabilities
On Saturday 24th May we will be putting on our boots and heading uphill and down dale to raise funds for The Chris Westwood charity based in Stourbridge. We will be set to complete a 100 mile walk within 48 hours through the South Wales Valleys.
This charity was founded in November 2003 to help children and young people with physical disabilities, in Stourbridge and the surrounding area within a 50 mile radius of Stourbridge. The charity provide special exercise equipment, special walkers and frames to assist in regaining and maintaining mobility. Wheelchairs, special mobility chairs, car seats and lifting equipment are purchased to improve the quality of life.
Just two of many examples of the people helped by the charity are as follows:
Harry has Downs Syndrome, Hirschprungs Disease and other health problems. He needed a cancerous growth to be removed from the base of his spine, which gave rise to great discomfort when sitting. The charity helped purchase a new buggy for Harry that provides the correct support and has helped greatly at the cost of £963.00.
Eve is three years old and was born with Werner Mesomelic Dysplasia, a condition which meant that her tibia bone did not form in either leg. Attempts to grow bone were unsuccessful and with no ankle joints and club feet, the decision was made to amputate her legs at the knees. She now has prosthetic legs attached to her waist, but due to the weight she tires easily. Funds were raised to buy her a hand pedalled trike at a cost of £2,653.00 which was co-funded with another charity to improve her mobility.
The charity operates with zero administration costs so 100% of the money raised goes to improving a child's life. The charity tries to respond rapidly to requests for help, usually within 24 to 48 hours, so that children do not have to wait. This is most important for children with degenerative conditions and mobility can often be prolonged by the early provision of suitable exercise equipment.
So please never underestimate the importance of any small donation made, with your continued support we can help make a huge difference in a child's life.
When we have walked for 60 miles in around 24 hours it will be the thought of the children we are helping that will keep us walking to the finish line. The lack of sleep, aches and pains, blisters and exhaustion won't stop us achieving our challenge for the children we and you are helping.
We ask you to walk in our shadows by donating on our page to show your support and help us improve a child's quality of life.
Thank you so much for your continued support.
Love Lisa and Hughie xx
