Most of you will probably know that I have Type 1 Diabetes and was diagnosed only 3 and a half years ago. Obviously it change my life in a big way but I've been determined from the start to not let it get in the way of anything I want to do. I feel lucky that I was diagnosed at a time in my life when I was able to cope with the challenge on my own and adjust my life relatively easily. But I know that there countless others out there who aren't so fortunate and have an incredibly difficult time managing the condition. This is the reason I am a passionate supporter of JDRF and the work that they do in fiding the cure for Type 1 diabetes. Finding a cure for children and adults whose health is put on the line on a daily basis because of this disease is what really matters to me.

Everyday, I have to carefully balance insulin, food, exercise, stress, temperature, illness etc - all of these factors impact my blood glucose. To keep myself safe from future complications such as blindness, kidney failure and limb amputation, I am constantly striving to keep myself in a 'safe' range of blood glucose. (note: this is impossible to do all the time). I don't get a day off from this condition - every single day I must work hard to keep my glucose levels in that safe range.
