About my fundraising
We are trying to raise the money for a custom-built day centre in this remote area on the north coast of Scotland. We want to provide social, advice, fitness and health facilities as well as respite for carers to the scattered, often forgotten, older and disabled people in this area.
We have raised over £60,000, have the land to build on, plans drawn up and paid for, planning permission and passionate support from the local community. One application to the Lottery has been turned down but we hope to apply again and the more solid commitment from others, the better our chances.
Our centre will be built just about midway between John O'Groats and the late Queen Mother's Castle of Mey. She supported the project and HRH Prince Charles donated to a cocktail party and auction held in the Castle of Mey to raise funds.
