Helen Whitehead is raising money for Multiple Sclerosis Society - Telford
So in a moment of spontaneity I decided to have a go at climbing up a teeny tiny hill in Tanzania, known locally as Mount Kilimanjaro.
7 days, 5 eco-zones, -25c and summiting at 20,000FT (yes a smidge taller than Everest Base Camp!) all for an often overlooked charity - Multiple Sclerosis Society.
MS is an unpredictable lifetime condition that see's sufferers battle daily with a wide range of mild to severe symptoms. Some of those include difficulty walking (I can empathise with this after damaging my knee ligament whilst training), numbness, weak muscles, bladder and bowel dysfunction, vision and speech interruption, tremors, seizures, breathing and swallowing problems.
I chose to support this charity as they provide excellent support, advice and guidance to any sufferer, and their loved-ones. I also have friends, and friend's family members, who dig into their own inner strength every day to battle MS.
My 7 days of discomfort and fatigue, I know, will be nothing to what sufferers go through every day.
I know there is always someone begging for your hard-earned cash, but I am not asking you to take off your make-up, put your bits into a sock, or chuck a huge bucket of ice-cold water over your head, I am quite prepared to do all the work!
All I ask is that you be kind and generous enough to dig into your pockets, purses and bags, reach down the back of the sofa, forego that extra pint or latte, and instead donate a few pennies or pounds to my charity choice.
Thank you soooo much, you are good kind people, that I love very much :-)
H.x
