About The Haemochromatosis Society

Supporting those affected, promoting awareness and aiding research. Haemochromatosis is one of the most common genetic disorders. It affects up to 1 in 400 in the UK; about 1 in 10 people are carriers. If you have it your body absorbs more iron than it needs. The iron stays in your organs and can cause irreparable damage. Early detection and treatment saves lives.

Funds raised may be used to ...

The Society is run with minimal overheads, and uses all funds raised to further our aims: To SUPPORT those affected by Haemochromatosis by providing help with their problems and ensuring that their relatives are tested in due time. To promote AWARENESS among the health professions, patients and their families, the general public and policy makers so that the condition may be diagnosed and treated in time. To encourage and support RESEARCH, and provide resource material for the allied medical professions.
