About Gloucestershire Breastfeeding Supporters' Network (GBSN)
The Gloucestershire Breastfeeding Supporters' Network (GBSN) began in 2002 with our first two support groups in Cheltenham and Gloucester. Gaining charity status in 2002, we now have 8 member groups throughout the county. These groups all run weekly, offering information, encouragement and support to women who would like to breastfeed or are already breastfeeding.
All groups are run by volunteer peer supporters - local mothers who have breastfed for at least three months. They are trained by GBSN to provide appropriate support and information so that a mother can breastfeed for as long as she and her baby wish.
Each week across Gloucestershire, GBSN peer supporters provide support and information to more than 100 pregnant women and new families.
We receive partial funding from some of the Children's Centres at which our groups are based. However, as we provide a free, universal service we are not eligible for funding from NHS Gloucestershire. Therefore we are ...

Funds raised may be used to ...
£500 covers the costs of running one support group for a month - including room hire, insurance, training, information and support materials and refreshments. £1000 allows us to train 10 new peer supporters. £36 covers the costs of a breastfeeding specialist worker for one session - to provide a high level of support to mothers who may be experiencing more serious challenges.

TO ADVANCE AND PROMOTE THE PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH OF MOTHERS AND CHILDREN THROUGH EDUCATION OF THE TECHNIQUES OF AND THE PROVISION OF TRAINING REGARDING BREASTFEEDING IN THE COUNTY OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO RAISING THE AWARENESS OF THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF BREAST FEEDING. 1 BY THE PROVISION OF PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL AND PRACTICAL SUPPORT AND INFORMATION TO BREASTFEEDING WOMEN AND THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION AMONG VOLUNTEERS BY THE PROVISION OF RELEVANT TRAINING. 2 BY ADVANCING THE EDUCATION OF THE PUBLIC AND ESPECIALLY THOSE CONCERNED WITH THE CARE OF CHILDREN ON THE HEALTH BENEFITS BOTH IMMEDIATE AND LONG TERM OF BREASTFEEDING. 3 BY THE DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE OF PEER SUPPORT GROUPS. 4 BY THE PROVISION OF A RESOURCE BODY CO-OPERATING WITH OTHER AGENCIES AND HEALTH PROFESSIONALS.
