Footsteps For Futures

Event date: 1st August 2014

Joe Hepworth is raising money for Results Uk

My story

Hello all, and thank-you for visiting my fundraising page...

From the 28th July - 1st August 2014, I will be joining the RESULTS UK 'Footsteps for Futures' challenge and walking to work in solidarity with children and young people from around the world who face a daily struggle to get to school.

I know what you're thinking... Joe Hepworth, outdoors man, physical endurance is right up his street... Er...

But I was inspired at the RESULTS UK conference where I heard a story about two deaf children in Uganda who have to walk 10 miles each day to their nearest school... and 10 miles home again. Through fierce sun and relentless rain. The walk is so exhausting, they can only go three times a week because they needed to recover... and yet they continue to go - as they know how vital it is to their future.

So I'm going to put myself in their shoes... and walk to work for the three days I'm working that week. That is from Finsbury Park to Ealing Studios... 10.6 miles each way... 63.6 miles over the three days! That's the equivalent of walking from London to Northampton (or a Google estimate of 22 hours walking!)

I've no idea how tough this is going to be... it?s potentially (another) very stupid idea. But if we expect young children around the world to do it, then surely I should be able to give it a go?! The fact that I also work in a school (albeit a film school) makes this all the more real.

I would very much appreciate it if you could donate any amount you feel you can afford to help RESULTS UK campaign to end poverty and hunger, especially by providing a quality education to every child. I've worked with RESULTS UK for a while now and I know what an effective organisation they are.

I've also, as most of you know, been to Africa and seen for myself the importance of education to helping young people escape the trap of poverty.

Sorry for sounding a bit worthy... but it kinda is!!!

Thank you people of the world...

Joe

P.S. When you make a donation, don't forget to check the Gift Aid box if you're a UK taxpayer as then your charity can claim an extra 25% from the government!
