Emma Hurrell is raising money for Haemochromatosis UK
My story
Haemochromotosis is a very common genetic disorder resulting from iron overload affecting 1 in 200 people in the UK. Because of an inherited defective gene, the body absorbs more iron than it needs which builds up in tissues causing damage to your organs, heart, liver, pancreas and brain or diseases such as diabetes and arthritis. Early detection and treatment, however, can lead to a normal life expectancy. A simple boold test is all that is required but most GPs are unfamiliar with the condition and too often this does not happen. The Haemochromatosis Society works to support those affected and as importantly to promote awareness and aid research.
