helen elliott is raising money for Diabetes UK

My story

Derby Diabetics Group (DDG) is a newly formed organisation, in aid of diabetes UK,

Stewart has type 1 diabetes, since the age of 11, stewart has controlled his diet very sensibly, and has been active and worked, with the help of injected insulin he has maintained a very healthy life style for 39 yrs.

Last year stewart suffered incredible back and chest pains, due to his kidneys failing, and his lungs filled with body fluid, and his body was drowning internally.

Since then stewart has had to self adminastrate 8 hrs a day of dialiasis.

8 weeks ago stewart had no feeling in his right leg, and stenths were placed in his thigh to open his arturies due to a severe blockage, unfortunarelty they failed and stewart sufferd gangrene in his foot as the tissue started to die due to lack of circulation, after a weeks of suffering pain, the surgens made a decision that apputation to his leg had to be carried out.
Since then stewarts amputation has healed well, but still on going, and due to hospitalisation for several weeks stewart then contracted pneumonia, in the mean time he is recovering very well, he will require alot of rehabilitation, both mentally and physically, with the most amazing support from ward 407 at the Derby Royal Hospital, his friends and Family, Stewart can regain the independence and full life again that he once had.

updated 22nd nov, stew has now suffered the same condition in his left leg, unfortunately the amputation has been above knee, his progress is positive

I am trying to show awarness in aid of Diabetes UK, if you can donate, help or carry out any charity work in aid of this i would be very gratefull, thank you for time in reading this,
Helen Elliott (Pickering) (stews sis) xx
