About my fundraising
We planning on cycling 120 miles in 2 days from one side of the country to the other in order to raise money to support HALE, a charity that is providing mental health services in Gondor, Ethiopia.
Up until 6 months ago, there were only 2 mental health nurses running a clinic at Gondar hospital for a population of approx 350,000 in the city and for 4 million people in the surrounding rural area.
Often people will come to the hospital in Gondor after struggling for many years. Someone who is very disturbed due to mental health problems might be locked in their home or tied up. Sadly many are unable to work and won't take medications for other diseases they have.
As well as training mental health nurses and medical students, the money raised will go towards building a small psychiatric ward at the hospital as well as developing community based mental health services.
