Flipping Fit For Fifty - Clare's big year

Event dates: 1st January 2014 – 31st December 2014

Clare is raising money for West Wight Sports & Community Centre

My story

2014 is the year I turn 50, so it seemed like a good reason to take on a challenge! My challenge is to complete all of the events which I normally organise:

  • the Needles Cross Country Half Marathon on June 8th
  • the Solent Swim on July 6th
  • the West Wight Triathlon on September 28th.

It's also possibly the most challenging (and exciting!) year ever for West Wight Sports Centre. as it faces a complete reduction in it's Isle of Wight Council grant. The Centre is at the heart of the West Wight community and provides essential services to so many people - including the old, the young, disabled, and people with long term illnesses. It also provides opportunities for young people to excel in sport as well as providing swimming lessons to 200 children every week (being surrounded by water this is crucial!).

If I raise more than £250 I will donate to two other charities - Huntingdons Disease Association (HDA.org.uk) and Uzima In our Hands (uzimainourhands.org).

Huntingdons Disease is genetic disorder which has huge impact on people who have it and far reaching impact on their families.

Uzima In our Hands is a charity run by West Wight people which supports an orphanage in Western Kenya. The trustees ensure that every single penny raised goes to the children and they themselves go there and ensure this happens.

Please support me - I'm not very good at running (and it's a very hilly 13 miles) and I don't like swimming in the sea (and the Solent is cold and deep). The triathlon seemed like something to tag on the end if survive the first two!

Please be generous! Thank you Clare
